Budgets of Strategic Vision Projects

Projects in the Strategic Vision for Girls and Women portfolio are either entirely focused on the Strategic Vision’s objectives, or have a component of a wider project focused on Strategic Vision. The data presented here is based on the total project budget, regardless of whether the entire project targets the Strategic Vision or just a component. We do however indicate the proportion of each of these two categories in each budget range.

If the project’s objective is relevant to the Strategic Vision policy frame then it is classified as wholly relevant. If one or more project outputs (but not all) are relevant to the Strategic Vision policy frame then the project is classified as component relevant.

The total project budget is not always available for all Strategic Vision projects included in the database. This was the case for 62 of the projects reviewed.

Some projects in the portfolio are funded by DFID only, whilst others are co-funded by DFID and other donors, such as national governments, regional governments or private sector organisations.

The total size of project budgets varies considerably. The budget range with the most Strategic Vision related projects is £20–50 million: 25% of projects (56 projects) with budget information fall into this category. Of these projects, there are a greater number (31 projects) that are wholly relevant to the Strategic Vision, rather than containing a component (25 projects) that is relevant.

In total, 66% of projects with budgets are in the range of £10 million or more. Projects with budgets above £20 million contain a greater proportion of projects that contain a component that is relevant to the Strategic Vision, rather than being wholly relevant.

Only 34% of projects with budgets are less than £10 million in total value. Conversely, the majority of these projects are wholly relevant to the Strategic Vision.

Of the total portfolio (including projects with no budget information), there is a greater proportion (52%) of Strategic Vision projects that are wholly relevant to this area, rather than contain a component (48%) that is relevant to the Strategic Vision.
