Ben Murphy

Ben Murphy joined Itad in the autumn of 2016 and is a consultant in the Climate Change theme.

Prior to Itad, he spent five years designing and managing large scale M&E and research projects in Africa, working with programmes focused on disaster risk reduction, agriculture, health, education and gender. He supported a number of organisations develop research requirements in practical studies combining qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis.

Ben also previously worked within the reducing vulnerability team at Practical Action, developing learning from across the organisation’s work on adaptation and disaster risk reduction, and helping to build an evidence base of successful approaches for dealing with uncertainty in development programmes. His work was used to influence national governments in the UNFCCC climate negations, and is presented in a number of practitioners’ manuals and best practice papers.

At Itad, Ben is the programme manager on the evaluation function of HMG’s International Climate Fund and provides M&E support to other climate projects. As a technical lead on the former he is using realist approaches to explore across 300+ projects how capacity building works, for whom, and in what circumstances to deliver climate related outcomes
