Larry Gelmon

Lawrence (Larry) Gelmon is a Canadian physician and epidemiologist, Nairobi-based, who has been working in development for more than thirty years, acting variously as a donor (eight years with the Canadian IDRC), researcher, project leader and consultant.

When not leading the Univ. Manitoba/Univ. Nairobi project team conducting HIV/AIDS-related research, programming and training in Kenya, Dr. Gelmon has spent the past twenty years consulting throughout Africa and South Asia on a variety of health-related topics, for clients including UN agencies, the World Bank, bilaterals, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, national governments and international NGOs, and has been team member and team leader on a number of Itad projects since 2012.

Although much of his work in recent years has been in the area of HIV/AIDS, other STIs and more general population and reproductive health issues, Larry has also been active in projects dealing with other tropical and communicable diseases, tropical public health and broader issues of health policy, health systems and health care delivery.  A team leader on numerous monitoring and evaluation assignments, Larry is also well-versed in the research and formulation of situation analyses and briefing papers informing policy development.
