Fondation Botnar’s new strategy embraces the importance of learning, evaluation and adaptation, recognising there is much to be learned from engaging with young people, partners, grantees, researchers and entrepreneurs alike.
With strong academic engagement, Fondation Botnar became one of the first foundations to adopt a relational approach to wellbeing. This means that the foundation and associated partners consider their efforts as subjective and relational, and thereby grounded on adaptive and agile management principles.
Fondation Botnar’s priorities include:
- Ensuring cities are fit for young people: connecting diverse partners with traditional local, regional and national planning authorities and helping to catalyse these transformations;
- Investing in AI and digital solutions: helping to identify digital solutions in health systems and advancing the use of digital health data;
- Promoting youth participation: designing and delivering platforms to engage young people in conversations surrounding their own health and wellbeing.
Our role
In order to capture, understand and communicate the foundation’s impact, Itad is working closely with foundation staff and key stakeholders to co-create the processes and solutions that will shape a highly innovative learning and evaluation system. This system aims to guide the foundation’s investments and help it achieve its 2022 strategic goals, including transforming urban environments to nurture the wellbeing of young people, ensuring the foundation’s work is informed by the experiences of young people in local contexts, and continuing the strategic journey from ‘from grant-maker to change-maker’. We will also engage with CASM, an agency focused on the application of AI and machine learning in international development approaches and practice.
Our approach
In recognition that human wellbeing emerges through an interplay of personal, societal and environmental processes, the system will be rooted in a human-centred design approach to help capture the perspectives of young people. Once the learning and evaluation system is operational, it will support the Foundation in generating, documenting and facilitating the use of evidence across their grant-making portfolio.
