In 2014 DFID commissioned Itad, through the e‑Pact consortium, to undertake a macro evaluation of its Empowerment and Accountability policy frame, which came into effect in 2011. The analysis focussed on social accountability approaches to E&A and worked to generate learning from DFID’s project portfolio about what works, for whom, in what contexts and why in order to inform policy and practice in DFID and other development organisations.
Join Itad’s Claire Hughes, with consultants Jeremy Holland and Florian Schatz, as they present the evaluation’s main findings in detail and highlight implications for social accountability programming. They will also reflect on the innovative mixed method design used to analyse documentation for a sample of 50 DFID social accountability projects to find out what drives improvements in social accountability in different contexts, and what does not.
