The impact of climate change is present in all areas of global development and cannot be addressed in isolation.
Itad is committed to taking action to address the climate crisis, both in our work and how we operate as an organisation. Our response is two-fold:
- We work with partners globally to help them address and respond to the effects of climate change
- We are pursuing green strategies through our operations
Effectively responding to the climate emergency requires systematic integration of climate considerations across the development sector.
What is climate mainstreaming? And why do we do it? Watch the video here.
We are addressing the climate crisis through our projects
1. Transformative change for people, nature and climate
In partnership with Oxford Policy Management, we are supporting the UK Defra-funded Biodiverse Landscape Fund (BLF) to better understand what works for supporting transformative change in diverse, transboundary landscapes.
The BLF addresses global challenges of poverty, climate change and biodiversity loss in an integrated manner, using a Landscape-based approach. We hope to promote improved learning and understanding of:
- How investing in nature can enhance economic opportunities
- How landscape-specific approaches can slow, halt or reverse biodiversity loss
- Approaches for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and safeguarding natural carbon sinks

2. Promoting fair and inclusive climate action in cities
We are providing strategy support, continuous learning and adaptive management support to Porticus’ Fair Urban Transitions programme.
The programme aims to promote inclusive and fair climate action in cities. It is working with marginalized groups and grassroots organisations to ensure policies are developed fairly, inclusively and integrate the perspectives of those commonly underrepresented.
We have supported a series of learning events to allow Porticus’ programme partners to exchange lessons, strategies and experiences – bringing together civil society organisations in Madris, Bengaluru and globally to promote inclusive policymaking.

3. Strategic learning and evaluation to improve climate outcomes for youth
We are supporting Fondation Botnar to develop their Strategic Learning and Evaluation (SLE) system to help understand what difference they make, for whom and in what ways.
Foundation Botnar is working to create cities that are healthy, sustainable and livable for young people by enabling meaningful youth participation and harnessing digital technology and AI.
We are helping the foundation generate the learning and insights it needs to answer some of its most pressing questions and better respond to the complexity, scale and urgency of today’s global challenges – including the effects of climate change on young people’s health and wellbeing.

We are measuring our carbon output to remain a Net-Zero organisation
We recognize that meaningful action on climate requires more than just offsetting our emissions.
Last year, we launched our Emission Reduction Plan (2022-2025), committing to monitor and steadily reduce our emissions to maintain carbon net-zero status – which we achieved in 2021.
A year on, we have published our first annual emission reduction plan progress report to take stock of our progress, share learnings and ask: what’s next?
