Webinar: Using evidence to guide intervention design

How can programme designers ensure they find and draw essential lessons from other projects in the same region? Join us to hear insights and recommendations from our Inclusive Resilience in Somalia Activity.

6/02/2024

The Inclusive Resilience in Somalia (IRiS) Activity aims to accelerate economic development for marginalised groups – in the fisheries, livestock, crop and skills development sectors – using a market systems development approach.

This webinar, hosted by BEAM Exchange, will share some of the findings of the evidence review that have helped define the programme’s design interventions.

Join us as we explore case studies identified from similar projects and interventions to:

  • Provide an overview of key findings of the evidence review exercise
  • Discuss examples of programmes identified that had similar results to those IRiS are pursuing
  • Provide recommendations for programmes with similar focuses (MSD, livelihood development, agriculture) to build on and integrate into their programme design
  • Share how IRiS integrated and implemented findings and recommendations into their intervention designs, strategic decisions and Theory of Change revision

Presentations will be followed by a 30 minute audience Q&A.

Find out more and register on Beam Exchange’s website.

Note: This webinar takes place 21 May 2023, 12pm – 1pm UTC.

What is the Inclusive Resilience in Somalia Activity?

If Somalia is to recover from decades of conflict and climate shocks and withstand future shocks, it needs to build the resilience of its people and economy and promote more inclusive economic development – especially for people from marginalised groups.

The IRiS activity aims to:

  1. Strengthen and diversify rural and urban livelihoods for marginalised groups
  2. Promote economic agency of marginalised groups

We are working with DT Global to promote evidence use within the IRiS activity by designing and implementing a cutting-edge learning agenda.

We aim to support continuous learning and adaptive management during programme implmentation to improve performance and, ultimately, empower Somalia’s most disadvantaged populations.

About the evidence review

The IRiS evidence review exercise aimed to collate and synthesise evidence relevant to IRiS’ six result areas and two objectives in order to support programming decisions and build an evidence base for the selected interventions.

When looking for evidence, the research team sought examples with results at four levels:

  1. Intervention
  2. Systemic change
  3. Growth and access to services
  4. Poverty reduction.
