Itad was contracted by the World Bank to assist in their Water Management Improvement Project, consisting of previous institutional reformation projects and proposals being reviewed; assessments of the institutional capacity of the DWR at central and local levels and a determining of the new structure of the DWR/SWA.
The Water Management Improvement Project (WMIP) followed on from the On-farm Irrigation (OIP) and the Irrigation Rehabilitation Project (IRP), both funded by the World Bank. The OIP was a US$ 29 million project which commenced in late 2000 and had two main components; rehabilitation of on-farm irrigation and drainage (I&D) infrastructure covering some 170,000 ha, and development and strengthening of Water Users Associations (WUAs).
