2003; Russia; DFID

Itad was contracted by DFID to evaluate the replicability and scalability of its Sustainable Rural Livelihoods Pilot Project (SRLPP) in Russia. Itad provided skills including cost-benefit analysis, economics, rural livelihoods, institutions and rural social development.

DFID’s Sustainable Rural Livelihoods Pilot Project (SRLPP) in Russia is applying livelihoods approaches in support of rural social and economic regeneration and continuing policy reforms of the Russian federal government. Initial results in SRLPP areas show noticeable improvements in livelihoods of the rural poor over the timeframe of the project. This success has generated strong interest on the part of the Russian Government and World Bank in the potential for wider application of the approaches. Local governments and some key federal policy makers are promoting their replication and agreement has been reached on using this experience to inform the development of a Russian national strategy for sustainable rural development.
