Alex Scales is a Business Development Officer at Itad, having joined in summer 2018 as Communications and Branding Intern and later Business Development Administrator. Alex’s role includes supporting all elements of business development, including bid coordination for a variety of clients, leads assessment, process management and partnership building.
Before joining Itad, Alex worked in the third sector for charities Just a Drop and Shelter UK, in campaigns and fundraising roles. More recently, Alex worked with Brighton-based NGO Renewable World as Programme Officer to assist with their programme reporting and communications, including the project management of their 10-year Impact Report.
Alex studied at The University of Leeds where he graduated with MA Politics with Distinction, as well as BA (Hons) Philosophy, Psychology and Scientific Thought. For his Master’s dissertation, Alex used a case study of Bhutan’s Gross National Happiness Index to argue that key capabilities scholars, such as Amartya Sen and Martha Nussbaum, were wrong to exclude ‘happiness’ from development appraisals.
