Becka Kindler joined Itad in the autumn of 2019 as a Research Analyst in our health theme. She recently completed an MA in Conflict, Security and Development at the University of Sussex where she focused on human rights, migration and foreign policy analysis.
Becka’s thesis was on the ‘hostile environment’ immigration policy in the UK and how it has evolved into a European-wide strategy of everyday bordering to manage migration. She focused on immigration policies in the UK, France and Italy and as part of her research visited Calais to volunteer with Care4Calais.
Before her MA, she received a BA in Spanish and Politics at Cardiff University. During her studies volunteered in Honduras for 10 weeks researching the indigenous communities in and around La Esperanza and facilitated workshops on small business development which aimed to help local women start their own businesses.
Between finishing her BA and starting her MA, Becka lived and worked in Southeast Asia and Australia. During this time, she volunteered teaching English to refugee children in Sydney.
