Jason Collodi

Jason Collodi is a senior consultant in Itad’s Fragile and Conflict-Affected States (FCAS) theme. He has over 12 years of experience in international development, with a special focus on conflict, security, resilience and governance in fragile and conflict-affected environments.

In particular, Jason has vast expertise in monitoring, evaluation, research, learning, knowledge management, and communications, working with on a number of large, high-value projects for bilateral and multilateral donors, developing expert skills in MEL to decipher programme influence and impact. He is highly skilled in creating, co-constructing and brokering development knowledge in order to influence policy and practice.

At present, Jason is the Learning Lead for the evaluation of FCO’s Conflict, Stability and Security Fund’s contracts as well as for the Monitoring and Evaluation of DFID’s Global Mine Action II (GMAP II) Programme. He is also the Project Manager for the Strategy Communications Syria (CSSF) evaluation. Prior to this he also led a project in Nepal focusing on armed violence, leading the dissemination of project outputs through national Government, Media, UN, and NGO channels, as well as all 75 districts in Nepal. He has also recently the Learning and Advocacy Expert for a DFID-funded project on preparedness, response and resilience where he documented and analysed the project’s learning to ensure that evidence was communicated to key audiences, as well as being the Knowledge and Learning Lead on a number of other DFID-funded programmes such as the DFID-ESRC Impact Initiative, the Global Open Knowledge Hub, the State Partnership for Accountability, Responsiveness and Capability programme in Nigeria, and a programme on mitigating violence.

Originally trained as a journalist, he has highly developed communication skills and is an expert in translating complex issues to varied audiences. Examples of his articles include a forthcoming paper on resilience to Hurricane Irma, a paper on humanitarian capacity in reliance, and a number of articles on conflict and violence. Jason is also an expert in capacity building, with experience in strengthening partners skills in research and analysis, strategic communications and mobilising learning.

Monitoring and Evaluation of the Global Mine Action II (GMAP II) Programme
(DFID) - Learning Lead
Itad was contracted by DFID to provide Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) services to the GMAP and was later contracted for second programme. The purpose of GMAP II was to reduce the humanitarian and development impact of landmines and Explosive Remnants of War (ERW). Jason is responsible for leading the learning for the project.

CSSF East Africa, Middle East and North Africa Monitoring Evaluation and Learning
(FCO) - Learning Lead
Itad has been contracted by the FCO to lead a consortium to deliver MEL services for the CSSF in the Middle East and North Africa. The CSSF is a multi-year funding mechanism which supports the UK Government’s work in addressing conflict and fragility globally. Jason is the learning lead across all three contracts and the Project Manager for the Strategy Communications project in Syria.

Captured, documented and analysed project learning and ensured evidence generated was communicated to target audiences to maximise uptake and impact. This involved writing core project outputs; organising, planning and facilitating learning events; and representing the project on panels at key external conferences. Heavily involved in the final analysis of the programme and donor reporting – wrote the Value for Money report and helping to design evaluation questionnaires. Conducted (and designed) the final project partner learning interviews and led on the attendant knowledge paper that was produced.
